HWY 101 WIDENING AT SALINAS STREET

Caltrans, SBCAG, and the City of Santa Barbara are widening northbound Hwy 101 at Salinas St. as a new addition to the Hwy 101 Operational Improvements.  Based on community requests, a new northbound Hwy 101 third lane will be added and the northbound Hwy 101 on and off-ramps at Salinas St. will be realigned.  Work will occur between summer 2011 and early 2012.

During construction, the Hwy 101 on-ramp at Salinas St. will be closed through January 2012.  During the closure, there will be signed detours on Milpas St. and Carpinteria Ave. (refer to detours).  Between December 2011 and early 2012, crews will finish up widening work in the median.

Throughout work, Hwy 101 will have at least 2 lanes open in each direction during the day.  Some nighttime lane closures will occur.  Salinas St. will remain open during this widening project.

OTHER PROJECTS

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments and Caltrans are working on other projects to improve Hwy 101 in Santa Barbara County.

The second phase of Highway 101 widening between Mussel Shoals and Carpinteria will begin in 2011 and is funded by Proposition 1B dollars, passed by California voters in November 2006.

Preliminary design is underway for the third phase of widening between Carpinteria and Montecito. Construction would be funded by a renewal of Measure D, Santa Barbara County's local transportation sales tax, and state and federal highway funds.
